1971 Campaign / War Medals
Wing Commander Syed Abid Raza was posted in a staff role as Deputy Director of Aircraft Engineering at Air Headquarters, Peshawar (1970-1972). He diligently formulated maintenance policies and upgrading of PAF aircraft and aeroengines. Due to consistent engineering support by the engineers of PAF, Mirage aircraft were fully operational by the 1971 War, and flew over 200 day and night sorties from their home base in PAF Base Sargodha, along with a detachment in PAF Base Mianwali. He ensured availability of engineering facilities for all types of aircraft during the 1971 war. Kudos to the pilots also that not a single Mirage aircraft was lost to the enemy.
After the war, Wing Commander Raza was awarded the following campaign and war military medals and respective ribbons for his active military service during the 1971 war by Pakistan Air Force.
*Sitara-e-Harb, A.H.1391 (War Star, 1971): The Star was awarded for active service in the Armed Forces in the war that took place from December 3rd to December 16th, 1971. The Pakistan Ministry of Defence renders it ‘Sitara-e-Harb’.
*Tamgha-e-Jang, A.H.1391 (War Medal, 1971): The medal was instituted in 1971 and awarded for non-operational service in the war of 1971.
